This is editorial advice based on what each product includes, not a ranking of sales.
The museums hold one of the largest art collections in the world. These are the highlights most visitors look for. Rooms can close for restoration or events, so access to every space is not guaranteed.
Michelangelo’s ceiling and his Last Judgment on the altar wall, with wall frescoes by Botticelli, Perugino and Ghirlandaio. The chapel comes near the end of the route.
Four rooms painted by Raphael and his workshop for the papal apartments, including the School of Athens. Expect a slow, busy passage at peak times.
A long corridor lined with painted topographical maps of the regions of Italy under a richly decorated vaulted ceiling.
The Pio Clementino collections hold celebrated ancient works such as the Laocoön and the Apollo Belvedere, set around the Octagonal Court.

Yes. The Sistine Chapel is part of the Vatican Museums route, so a standard museum ticket includes it. You reach the chapel near the end of the one way route. On rare occasions the chapel can close for ceremonies or other operational reasons, so check notices from the museums before you visit.
No. A fast track or timed ticket lets you skip the line for buying tickets at the entrance, but every visitor still passes through security screening. At busy times there can be a short wait at security and inside popular rooms.
Only if the product you choose clearly includes it. Standard museum tickets cover the museums and the Sistine Chapel, not the basilica. Some guided tours and packages add the basilica, and its access can depend on religious events on the day.
For regular visitors, no. The Sistine Chapel is reached through the Vatican Museums, and there is no ordinary separate street entrance for it. Plan to book a museum entry ticket or a tour that includes the chapel.
Cover your shoulders and knees. The museums do not admit visitors in sleeveless or low cut tops, shorts above the knee or miniskirts, and hats are not permitted inside. A light scarf or shawl is an easy way to cover up if you are dressed for warm weather.
In many museum galleries you can take photos for personal use without flash. In the Sistine Chapel, photography and filming are not allowed, and visitors are asked to keep silent. Staff may ask you to put cameras and phones away.
As planning advice, allow around 3 hours for the museums and the Sistine Chapel. The route is long and the pace varies with crowds and your interests. Add extra time if you plan to visit St. Peter’s Basilica afterwards.
It depends on the product and option you choose. Several of the tickets we cover were listed as nonrefundable with no rescheduling. Read the cancellation terms on the booking page before you pay, because a refund is not guaranteed.
Follow the meeting point in your booking instructions. For guided tours and hosted entry it is not always in front of the museum entrance, so check the address and arrival time in your confirmation before the day.
